Well, known embroidery Phulkari is also a treasure of Punjab. The name Phulkari means flowers. The embroidery was named phulkari because the main focus of this embroidery is flowers. But along with flowers geometrical shapes and other motifs can also be seen.
Types of Phulkari Embroidery
Phulkari has been given various names according to its stitching technique and its region. Traditionally Punjabi Embroidery was done without using a pencil or any kind of charcoal to draw the patterns. In old days women used to clean their courtyard and all invite other women to do a phulkari together. They would enjoy this occasion almost like a festival, folk songs were sung.
Bagh Phulkari Embroidery
In bagh embroidery entire cloth is covered with embroidery. The intensity of embroidery is that much that the base cloth is not even visible.
Darshan Dwar
A Darshan Dwar embroidery is embroidered to offer God when a wish has been fulfilled.
Chope and Subhar
Traditionally this embroidery is done for brides on red fabric with yellow thread.
Punjab embroidery is inspired by nature and it does justice to it by embroidering such beautiful motifs. Some common motifs are sunflower, peacock, lotus, and wheat. Motifs that use seven and five colors are called satrangas and panchrangas respectively.
